"I wanted somewhere secluded and quiet for a surprise few days...

...for my wife's birthday, The Hut was perfect in every way. The Hut is nestled on the edge of some woodland looking out towards picturesque farmland and finally over to the sea. We had perfect weather the entire time and the perfect quiet we were looking for. The bluebells in the woods behind the hut had just come out so the scene was amazing. Each day my wife swung in the hammock while I watched the train off in the distance while the sheep made their way from field to field and the tractors worked in the distance. Each evening as it got dark we made a fire outside and just sat until it was time for bed. I can't express in words how idyllic this place is. Johnny was there to meet us and drop off some milk and eggs and leave us to ourselves the entire time, while letting us know to get in contact if we needed anything. The Hut itself was spotlessly clean and well equipped with a simple kitchen, the proper flushing toilet and shower were fantastic. There's no mains electricity but a big battery runs the lights and there's a big cool box outside that kept things cool even through the hottest days of the year so far. The Plough, 5-10 minutes walk away, were super friendly and supplied us with an amazing fish and chip dinner that I walked back down to the Shepherds Hut. We'll be back, and probably as often as we can."

"The Hide Out is a lovely, comfortable space...

...finished to a high standard - easy and efficient wood burning stove - in a beautiful location - amongst the trees yet big views - lovely walks on our doorstep, birdsong and even a passing deer! A lovely place to stay - would recommend this special space."

"Forget bland hotels...

...if you want a memorable short break then it's hard to beat waking up to 360 views over the sea and countryside, from your bed in a unique space, built with superb craftsmanship by your friendly host. We spent two windswept November nights, which only made the Shepherds Hut seem even more warm and cosy, and was the perfect base to walk or cycle to Rye, Camber Sands, the lesser known coastline and nature reserves. We also explored a short drive further down the coast and discovered Dungeness which has to be seen to be believed, almost post-apocalyptic, bleak but beautiful, such an interesting place. Awesome break, thanks!"

“Johnny has created something truly special...

...and wonderful on top of the hill. We had a lovely stay with our dogs. The beach was nice and close for long dogs walks, we enjoyed a lovely dinner at the local pub at the top of the drive. The Shepherds Hut was bigger than we expected, it was so clean and cosy and the views are spectacular. Johnny was friendly and even gave us some eggs for breakfast. Thanks for having us, we'll be back soon!"

“What can I say...

...such a great place. Johnny met us as the local pub and showed us to his little self-built haven. It is a wonderful place, with superb views (and I mean REALLY superb), everything you would even need whilst still providing the chance to get-away-from-it-all. He's a real gent and did everything that he could to make us welcome and comfortable. The practicals: The hut is a short 5 min walk to the local Plough pub if you get thirsty or peckish but there are more than enough amenities (cooker, BBQ, firepit) if you want to stay in and cater yourself. The lack of fridge isn't an issue as Johnny has an industrial scale cool box to keep food/milk/champagne cool. The Hut is small, but perfectly formed and Johnny has done a great job turning such a small space into a great little holiday home. I really can't spout enough praise on this place - I just wish that we could have stayed longer. We'll be back."

“This is a truly special hut...

This is a truly special Shepherds Hut, it's a lovely little hideaway with beautiful views. It has everything you need and more, a really cosy feel, and is finished to a very high spec. It's a great location with the pub just around the corner within walking distance, and there's plenty of great places nearby to visit, including great beaches for kitesurfing. Johnny made it very welcoming with lots of nice touches on arrival - and he's really thought of everything. We were only there for one night, but wish we could have stayed longer! Thanks for a wonderful stay!"

“Johnny's Hut was one of the loveliest places we have ever been to.

The interior is really charming but nonetheless practical and thought through and the site is no less than breathtaking. Brilliant!"
